If you thought Apple might overlook CarPlay after the iOS 26 launch, think again. The upcoming iOS 26.2 update brings meaningful upgrades that show Apple is actively listening to user feedback and refining the in-car experience.
Until now, CarPlay simply mirrored your iPhone’s pinned conversations—you couldn’t edit them on the car’s screen. With iOS 26.2, Apple adds the ability to pin, unpin, or rearrange conversations directly from your infotainment display. The interface also gets a visual refresh to align more closely with iOS.
This may seem like a small change, but it addresses a real pain point for drivers who rely on CarPlay for messaging. It signals that Apple continues to treat CarPlay as a living platform—not a “set and forget” feature.

Early CarPlay widget support was limited—many cars could only display one at a time. Now, more users will be able to scroll through multiple widgets (up to three in some setups), with reports that additional widgets can also be stacked vertically in certain layouts.
Whether you want to glance at music, weather, and navigation at once, or simply break up the default gradient background, extra widget space means a more personalized and useful dashboard. It’s a step toward the customizable, information-rich CarPlay experience many have been waiting for.

These aren’t headline-grabbing overhauls, but they reflect Apple’s continued investment in making CarPlay more intuitive and user-controlled. Between smarter messaging controls and improved widget layouts, iOS 26.2 shows CarPlay is still evolving—even as Apple develops its next-generation CarPlay Ultra platform.
